HUNGER PANGS

A gnawing hunger to create beauty
probes insistent in many minds.
The brief satisfactions brought
from food, water, and basic needs
yields to a deeper need to create
that born from one’s mind and hand.

Nature has always created beauty,
gratefully viewed by some,
simply accepted by others as their due.

Admire those persons who create art
in memorable works of music,
bring beauty to life with their camera,
or those who place daubs of paint,
bringing their vision to life on canvas.

Admire as well or more those persons
who find beauty where others do not,
seeing patterned symmetry in desert sand
where others see only heat and desolation;
who nurse anticipation for the desert flowers
await to display blossoms with spring’s rain.

Castles have always floated in the air,
drifting lazily to wait for the dreamer
to envision them real in mind
and construct the foundation to support,
make them whole for others to see,
those who do not see castles in the air.

Yes, Gus. I also admire the poet who gives words to the same beauties of nature and the world! Thank you.
